Styles of Corten Planters
When shopping for a new rusted planter, it’s key to find the right style for your garden. There are many different styles and features of corten steel to consider:
- Shape. Choose from cube, trough, circle, tower, bowls and more to perfectly suit your garden design.
- Size. Choose a size which suits the space you’re designing for. Sizes start from just 37cm by 37cm up to 200cm by 200cm.
- Feet. Adding feet to corten steel garden planters gives a secondary dimension and added height to your design. Planters without feet still have significant space for water to flow freely away from the base.
- Edge. Choose from straight edges or a curved-type in column and drum planters. Rounded edges are great for commercial projects to avoid public injury.
The range of designs in the corten steel planter collection include our selection of more artistic designs which will instantly transform any space.
Where to use Corten Planters
Choosing the perfect location to position corten steel planters can help with a beautiful garden design. Style, size and shape should all be taken into consideration for the placement of planters. Multiple corten steel planters can be used for a unified look and to create a flow of rusted steel throughout your garden or outdoor space. Pair this with corten steel garden edging for a seamless design. Other uses include using tall narrow corten steel planters to flank doorways, or using trough planters as vegetable beds for shrub and tree planting.

What is Corten Steel?
Corten steel is not a new material, but its application to landscaping is relatively recent. Developed in America in the 1930s, corten steel is an alloy made mainly from iron with small amounts of carbon and other elements. This composition provides weather-resistance that is far superior to other steels; which is why corten steel planters are so long-lasting.
The weather-resistance comes about from the formation of a rusted outer layer which protects the inner steel, giving a gorgeous orange hue. This is why they’re also commonly known as rusted planters. It typically takes around 9 months for the steel to weather, however this process can be sped up.
Another advantage is that corten planters are incredibly strong yet fairly lightweight, as you only need a thin gauge of metal to give a huge amount of structural solidity. This makes them a great, long-lasting and sturdy feature for any space. For more information on the ins and outs of Corten Steel, see our Corten Steel Questions Answered blog.
