Corten Steel Atlas Column Planter by Adezz
Our unique Corten Steel Atlas Column Planter by Adezz is a beautiful piece, perfect for levelling up your garden design. Fabricated from high-quality 2mm thick Corten Steel, these stunning planters look good and last a lifetime. Over time the Corten forms a self-protecting rust layer that prevents degradation of the inner steel meaning these fantastic planters are incredibly weather-resistant and so are suitable for both domestic and commercial projects. Available in a huge range of sizes with varying widths and heights it is easy to find the ideal planter for any setting. The size variation means that these planters are suitable for a range of different plants and planting schemes. The taller, narrower planters are fantastic for flanking doorways and look gorgeous filled with trailing plants. Alternatively, the shorter, wider planters suit larger shrubs such as Hydrangeas, the deep green leaves of which will contrast beautifully with the orange hue of the Corten Steel. Every Corten Steel Column Planter by Adezz comes with drainage holes and short 15mm feet, raising the planter off the ground just enough to allow water to drain freely out and away from the base. The stylish design of these planters means they work perfectly as stand-alone pieces, used in sets or when used in combination with out other Corten Steel Planters to create a flow of Corten colour through your garden. How Your Planter Will Weather
- When your planter arrives it will depending, on when it was manufactured will be the colour of freshly manufactured steel, with a dark oily coating or in a stage of patina.
- As your Corten Steel planter begins to weather, the oily residue will break down.
- Your planter will begin to change colour, during this stage – the ‘run-off’ may stain stone or concrete surfaces that it comes into contact with.
- After 9 months, some ‘run-off’ may still occur.
Corten Steel (or weathering steel) is an alloy that naturally forms a rust coating the over the first 9 months or so of it being exposed to the weather. Interestingly, due to the composition of this special alloy, this rust coating forms a protective layer they prevents further rusting. The steel underneath remains unimpaired as the outer layer continues to protect and regenerate as it exposed to water and oxygen.
One of the most striking landmarks in Britain, The Angel of the North, by the artist Anthony Gormly is made of COR-TEN weathering steel. It is one of many remarkable structures in the world made of weathering steel including but not limited to the Barclays Centre, The Chicago Picasso Sculpture and the Australian centre for contemporary art. COR-TEN (CORrosion resistance TENsile strength) weathering steel was first invented by United States Steel for use in the manufacture of ore transports. Since it was creation in the 1930’s, a slew of artists and designers have seen the potential of Corten weathering steel to create installations of great style and beauty. This adezz range of planters is a notable addition to that list.
You will see in the gallery and image representing the ageing process that Corten steel goes through, and although this is outlined in the section above – you can see in the image the range of shades these planters take on as they form their protective coating.
