Corten Steel Ellipse Planters by Adezz
Our stylish Corten Steel Ellipse Planters by Adezz have a beautiful oval shape which perfectly compliments the rusted hues of the Corten Steel. The smooth and sleek design makes for a contemporary piece and the lack of angled corners means this planter can be used in areas of high foot-fall for both domestic and commercial projects. Available in a range of sizes, the unique shape allows you to develop a chic garden design particularly if you are looking for softer tones without any harsh angles. The elliptical shape is emblematic of a rowing boat so with clever placement, this beautiful planter can appear to sail through your garden creating a gorgeous transition between planter, lawn and flower bed. Fabricated from high-quality 3mm thick Corten Steel, these planters are hard-wearing and durable. They are also weather-resistant with the Corten Steel forming a self-protecting rust layer which prevents degradation of the inner steel and provides the stunning amber colour. These planters also come with small 17mm feet and drainage holes which allow water to flow freely out and away from the base. The unusual shape of these Corten Steel Ellipse Planters by Adezz lends quite a large amount of flexibility to the planting scheme you can apply to them, particularly the larger options. It is possible to have taller plants in the middle and shorter or trailing plants around the edge to create different level and make the most out of your space. The gorgeous design of these planters means they work well as stand-alone pieces, when used in sets or when used in combination with out other Corten Steel Planters. How Your Planter Will Weather
- When your planter arrives it will depending, on when it was manufactured will be the colour of freshly manufactured steel, with a dark oily coating or in a stage of patina.
- As your Corten Steel planter begins to weather, the oily residue will break down.
- Your planter will begin to change colour, during this stage – the ‘run-off’ may stain stone or concrete surfaces that it comes into contact with.
- After 9 months, some ‘run-off’ may still occur.
Corten Steel (or weathering steel) is an alloy that naturally forms a rust coating the over the first 9 months or so of it being exposed to the weather. Interestingly, due to the composition of this special alloy, this rust coating forms a protective layer they prevents further rusting. The steel underneath remains unimpaired as the outer layer continues to protect and regenerate as it exposed to water and oxygen.
One of the most striking landmarks in Britain, The Angel of the North, by the artist Anthony Gormly is made of COR-TEN weathering steel. It is one of many remarkable structures in the world made of weathering steel including but not limited to the Barclays Centre, The Chicago Picasso Sculpture and the Australian centre for contemporary art. COR-TEN (CORrosion resistance TENsile strength) weathering steel was first invented by United States Steel for use in the manufacture of ore transports. Since it was creation in the 1930’s, a slew of artists and designers have seen the potential of Corten weathering steel to create installations of great style and beauty. This Adezz range is a notable addition to that list.
You will see in the gallery and image representing the ageing process that Corten steel goes through, and although this is outlined in the section above – you can see in the image the range of shades these planters take on as they form their protective coating.
