Corten Steel Low Cube Planters by Adezz
Our stylish Corten Steel Low Cube Planters by Adezz are simple in design yet big in impact. It is easy to see why these planters are one of our most popular products. High-quality, contemporary design and a beautiful construction all contribute to the popularity of these planters. Fabricated from 2mm thick Corten Steel as standard, these stunning planters are durable, lightweight yet incredibly strong. They also boast fantastic weather-resistance with the Corten forming a self-protecting rusted outer layer which prevents degradation of the inner steel. This makes these planters perfect for both domestic and commercial applications. With a huge variety of sizes to choose from, it is easy to find the right planter for your outdoor area. The range of sizes means these planters are suited to a whole host of different flora, including Mexican feather grass, Stipa tenuissima for example, the green and yellow of which gives a beautiful contrast against the burnt orange of the Corten Steel. All of the Corten Steel Low Cube Planters by Adezz come with drainage holes and small 15mm feet as standard which allow water to flow freely out and away from the base. The timeless design of these planters means they are fantastic for use as stand-alone pieces, used in sets or when used in combination with our other Corten Steel Planters. How Your Planter Will Weather
- When your planter arrives it will depending, on when it was manufactured will be the colour of freshly manufactured steel, with a dark oily coating or in a stage of patina.
- As your Corten Steel planter begins to weather, the oily residue will break down.
- Your planter will begin to change colour, during this stage – the ‘run-off’ may stain stone or concrete surfaces that it comes into contact with.
- After 9 months, some ‘run-off’ may still occur.
Corten Steel (or weathering steel) is an alloy that naturally forms a rust coating the over the first 9 months or so of it being exposed to the weather. Interestingly, due to the composition of this special alloy, this rust coating forms a protective layer that prevents further rusting. The steel underneath remains unimpaired as the outer layer continues to protect and regenerate as it exposed to water and oxygen.
One of the most striking landmarks in Britain, The Angel of the North, by the artist Anthony Gormly is made of COR-TEN weathering steel. It is one of many remarkable structures in the world made of weathering steel including but not limited to the Barclays Centre, The Chicago Picasso Sculpture and the Australian centre for contemporary art. COR-TEN (CORrosion resistance TENsile strength) weathering steel was first invented by United States Steel for use in the manufacture of ore transports. Since it was created in the 1930’s, a slew of artists and designers have seen the potential of Corten weathering steel to create installations of great style and beauty. This Adezz range is a notable addition to that list.
You will see in the gallery an image the represents the ageing process that corten steel goes through, and although this is outlined in the section above – you can see in the image, the range of shades these planters take on as they form their protective coating.
