Corten Steel Water Bowl
Add a centrepiece water feature to your garden. A reflective water bowl is a great way to add light and depth, creating a tranquil space and attracting birds to your garden which come to drink and wash. Our corten steel water bowls have already started their rusting (weathering) process, giving them an instantly warm and natural appearance. Very strong and water resistant, holes can be drilled if you wish to add a pump or use as a fire pit. Corten Steel weathering is the rusty, orange-brown “patina” that develops overtime. While this patina serves as a protective, corrosion-resistant barrier, it can produce rust run-off as it develops.
• Weathers to develop a rich rust patina
• 80cm diameter 3mm 60cm diameter 2mm
• Extremely long lasting
• Maintenance free
In the earlier stages of the rust settling on the surface of planters, there may be an element of staining from rust-coloured run off. Therefore, try to avoid putting Corten steel planters onto porous surfaces and be aware of this initial effect. Whilst containing water a oxide solution can form, it is worth refreshing the water occasionally.
What is Corten Steel?
Created in the United States in 1939, Corten or Weathering Steel is an alloy that forms a natural rust coating over time as it is exposed to the weather. The outer layer rusts forming a protective coating which prevents degradation of the steel inside. Corten Steel is used all over the world. Notably in the UK one of our greatest landmarks, The Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley is made from Corten. Other striking examples include the Chicago Picasso Sculpture and the Museum of Old and New Art in Australia.
