Mediterranean Urn | Fibreglass Planter
We have named this Mediterranean Urn Sparta, which are famously known as a warlike Hellenic nation of the ancient world, often portrayed in contrast to the scholarly and democratic Athens. Spartan mothers used to tell their sons upon going to war, “Come home with this shield, or upon it” – well, we at Flora Select say “You should go home with this Urn, or in it”
This planter has be designed as part of our range of Mediterranean urns. They have been made to imitate pottery that has been found dating back to the ancient world, including Cretan urns, Aegean jugs and Hellenic Amphorae. As such, we decided to name these after some of the iconic cities of the ancient world like Rome, Athens and as in this case, Sparta. It is worth noting that this design in particular is not specifically linked to Sparta or its history.
This Urn has a smaller mouth than some of the others in the range and is distinctly stouter. We feel that you would be hard pressed to actually plant anything inside, though if you manage it, we feel it would be more suited to growing planters than some of the other Mediterranean urns. Although it fits the stand like the other planters in the range, unlike some of the others, this planter is also capable of free standing, without the aid of a stand.
However, like many of the other ancient world Urns that we sell, we feel that this might be far more suited to being used purely decoratively, either indoors or outside.
Unlike authentic baked earth, this planter is made of lightweight fibreglass, making it far easier to install and reposition later, if you choose to do so. It goes without saying that fibreglass is also far more robust than a genuine ceramic urn dating back to the ancient world. But it will also be more robust than a modern one. Terracotta has a tendency to bleach in the sun, and crack in the frost – fibreglass is highly resistant to both of these things. Order the Spartan Urn from Flora Select and make your home or garden design just a little less… well, Spartan.
